Why a quilt?
Quilting offers an opportunity for many hands to come together and create something beautiful. As folk art, quilts are textile records of our histories. Even at their most basic utilitarian function, quilts are designed to provide comfort.
Quilts have been utilized in activism and the fight for ciil rights. We can find inspiration from historic examples like the AIDS Memorial Quilt and the Freedom Quilting Bee, or from modern projects like mutual aid community quilts.
How do we find hope in moments of despair?
The bigoted losers in power would prefer trans people scared and isolated as they strip us of our rights and humanity. The feds are attempting to erase the transgender community from our own history, but we are here and we will always be here.
Our community is vibrant. The people here are extraordinary. Our lives and our stories are important. This project aims tomboy the rich tapestry that is the St. Louis trans community.
